Gaming Google Strategies Fail
Over the last few years webmasters all around the globe have been focused on getting their sites to page one on Google and other Search Engines by any means available – fair or foul.
Of course Google had much to do with this phenomenon and the host of resulting SEO products simply because they put so much emphasis on backlinks.
More recently Google has suggested at various times that content is more important than SEO and backlinks plus the suggestion has been made that they now put more emphasis on social linking.
But of course what Google says and what Google does is never in the same park.
One commentator recently expressed these thoughts:
Gaming Google & Search Optimization Fail
I read this article this morning – and I am continued to be surprised and shocked at how little the search optimization discussion has been elevated by those so intimately involved in the industry. The articles title is ‘Rules for beating Google at SEO’ – which seems to position Google as the opposition in the search process, and perhaps even an adversary who has to be overcome and, well, beaten. I would have hoped that in the early parts of a new decade, and after the years of observing search engine optimization that this kind of thinking would have been consigned to the past, and that the recognition should have been made that gaming or beating the system is defunct.
